Banana Lagkitan, Honey Bananas

Bit of a renaissance man

OK, it may not be the cutest variety of Philippine bananas, but Lagkitan is certainly one of our favorites. The banana itself tastes like a cross between the Saba and Latundan varieties, with sweet and tangy notes, a sticky texture, and relatively firm consistency. Like most bananas, Lagkitan is packed with Vitamin B6, which helps you produce red blood cells, metabolize carbohydrates and fats, flush unwanted chemicals out of your liver and kidneys, and maintain a healthy nervous system overall.

The presence of manganese helps your body make collagen and protects your skin, while the presence of potassium helps your body maintain a healthy heart and blood pressure. On top of that, bananas have soluble fiber and help you control blood sugar levels. They do have some natural sugars, though, but they aren't bad for you! Sucrose, fructose, and glucose actually give you a fat-free and cholesterol-free source of energy. This is why they make such great snacks for kids and athletes!

Banana Lagkitan can be eaten raw or cooked. Don't be too surprised if you find that yours are filled with seeds! You can simply carve them out and plant them later.
