Cuttings & Mulch
She may look pretty drab now, but Kakawate trees produce beautiful pink flowers — which happen to be edible and perfect on salads! Also known as Madre de Cacao, they're natural nitrogen fixers and good for soil health.
Calliandra shrubs, lovingly dubbed "powder puffs" for their whispy floral orbs, are a colorful addition to any garden. They love the heat and can be grown indoors too.
Both Kakawate and Calliandra leaves can be used for mulch. If you have space, you can plant the cutting and allow it to reach full size. Otherwise, you could simply prune and keep small.
